Starting 100 m from the main square in St Michael, we turn right at the St Anna Chapel and follow path 7. This takes us through the hamlet of Pigeno, past Castel Gandegg until we reach the Stroblhof. An inside tip, as the food is so good!
From here we follow path 15 for about 20 mins in a southerly direction. You can already feel the cooling effect of the ice holes. Air passes through the splits in the porphyrite rocks and is cooled down on the way. This fresh breeze can be felt up to a height of 5 m. Due to this enormous difference in temperature, there are over 600 different plants growing in this area. A natural wonder!
Path 7A takes us to the hotel Steinegger and then follow path ST to return to St Michael.
