Kaltern, the near village

This tour is more of a long walk rather than a hike. Walk along the Mendel Road at the south end of the village of St Michael for about 2 km. Here a road goes off in a southerly direction and you can already see the village of Oberplanitzing in the distance (path 15). To reach Kaltern you can follow either the path 15 or 15A. Here, there is nothing to stop you from looking around the village centre.
At the two wineries at the beginning of the village, there are two ways back to Eppan. The first one is path 6, which goes through a viaduct in the area of Laveson. This was the original path of the Etsch River. Walk in a northerly direction, along the Kreuzweg and you will get to Eppaner Boden and can easily find your way to the centre.
The alternative path is the bike path, which is shady and has places to sit down and rest.
