Kreit

Kreit this manor house is probably one of the best known and most easily seen in Überetsch
It lies to the east of the village and easily seen when walking along the bike path. History: the house rose from being a normal farmhouse to a manor house around 1596, and in the same year it was rebuilt and renovated by the owner Elias Leys. Documents exist to prove this. The house was taken over by the family Zeffer in the middle of the 17th century who were shortly after given the aristocratic name of von Zephyris and the title von Greith. The last descendants of the family were priests. After this, farmers took over the house, and it has now been in the hands of the Raifer family since 1898. Architectural style: it is mainly noticeable for its position, but also for its well kept structure with some of the original building still standing. One of the wooden ceilings was most probably put into Schloss Freudenstein in 1693. The story telling murals, coats of arms, as well as elements of the Überetsch style of architecture make the manor house very interesting. The house is lived in. The chapel is dedicated to St Anton and is wonderful addition to the house. It was finished in 17th century and has many frescoes, which were uncovered in 1990.
