Castle Aichberg

Castle Aichberg: situated just above St Michael to the left of the Bergstrasse (towards Eppan/Berg).
History: originally built by the Leys family around 1600, it got its name from the Aichner family who came from Kurtinig. In 1570 Nikolaus Leys married the oldest daughter of David Lanser, who was the owner of the farm at that time. The castle got its name many years later. The owner of the nearby house Paschbach took over Aichberg in 1625 and in 1632 became the aristocrat Freiung fuer Aichberg with the new name Aichberg von Paschbach zu Aichberg. In 1776 the building was owned by Leopold Adam von Wenser and in 1860 Johann Klotz. Josef von Zastrow was responsible for the renovation work in 1870. After Franz Tausend, the building was taken over by the family Lord Khuen-Belasi who still live in the house today. They also take in guests in their beautiful house. Architectural style: the house was renovated in 2001. Arched windows, Terrazzo floors, square windows with stone frames can all be observed by the guests. The Überetsch style of architecture cannot be overseen. Above the entrance there is a fresco by Peter Fellin, and in the chapel there are historical paintings. Walking: the Matschatsch high path goes past Schloss Aichberg, as well as the hike Mendel-Furglau. Tip: a walk through the area around Eppan will definitely take you past Schloss Aichberg.
