Castle Korb

 Schloss Korb

Castle Korb: to the south west of Missian you can see Schloss Korb on a hill with its two impressive towers.

History: in 1236 it was the living quarters of the Korb family who were in service to the Counts of Eppan. This was the time that Boymont was built. Later it changed hands within several aristocratic families until Johann von Putzer took it over in 1834 and then promptly extended it and added the chapel. In 1877 Schloss Korb was sold to the German family Tessmann. The son, Dr. Friedrich von Tessmann was a well-known historian of Tyrolean history. His collection of Tyrolean objects was passed on to the country of South Tyrol and from this, today’s government library was formed and named after him. In 1918 Anton Dellago bought the building and his son formed a model agricultural business and opened a castle hotel and an elegant restaurant. The hotel is still run by the same family today. When Anton Dellago bought the building, he was the Mayor of Eppan. Architectural style: the original building is the five storey square tower with a few outbuildings for the staff. Even though it is simple, it is magnificent. The entrance to the middle floor could only be reached by climbing up a ladder and therefore only the third and fourth floors were lived in. The upper floor was only used if the castle needed to be protected from intruders. There is a low square roof on top of the last floor. This typical building for the time is well kept. Extra buildings that were added later show the Romantic of the time and form the rest of the castle together with the battlements. Peculiarities: the domed arched windows with round pillars, the bud-like capital and transom as well as the stone framed square and arched doorways. It is possible to book a room in this wonderful ambience. Tip: classical concerts are sometimes held here. Walking: Schloss Korb is easily reached by car, and from here there are many possibilities to discover the castles and ruins in the area. Seasoned walkers already know the Castle Walk. The ruin of Boymont and Burg Hocheppan are waiting for you!
