Ruin Altenburg

 Schloss Aichberg

Ruin Altenburg: situated on a hill opposite Schloss Warth.

History: the castle was already mentioned at the end of the 12th century and was built in 1189 by Count Egno I von Eppan. It was completed by the bishopric of Trient, who received it as a fief. It is not known where the name came from, but the castle was used to house the judges of the counts of Eppan and later the princes of Tyrol. It was easy for them to govern the country from here. In the 15th century the castle started deteriorating, and finally, all court proceedings were transferred to Schloss Gandegg, as the judge was no one other than Blasius Khuen zu Gandegg. The building was turned into a smaller house in 1910. Architectural style: there is not much left to see of the original architecture. A few remains of the truce are all that is left.
