Marklhof

Marklhof: surrounded by vineyards and orchards, Marklhof lies above the valley of Bozen.
History: the numerous owners and tenants of the building were the wine suppliers of the Augustiner canons from Bavaria from 1500. When the convent closed down, F and V Krautschneider bought the building in 1880.It was then passed on to the family Tschöll and then later to the family Niedermayr. Since 1938 it has been owned by the canons of Neustift by Brixen, who also make excellent wines. Architectural style: at the turn of the century remains of a chapel were found. It is particularly noticeable for its historical battlements. Peculiarities: the house offers a spectacular view of the both the Etsch and the Eisack Valleys and is a renowned restaurant which has been run by the families Heinrich and Andreas Oberhofer since 1960. Heinrich and his wife run the dining room, whereas Andreas and his wife create wonderful dishes using mainly local produce. South Tyrolean specialities are home smoked.
