The classic among the road bike tours of southern South Tyrol leads after a leisurely climb to the Mendel pass (1,363m above sea level), where a spectacular panorama of the Dolomite Mountains opens out. Subsequently the tour leads slightly downhill into the neighbouring region of Trentino and continues leisurely uphill to the Gampen pass (1,518m above sea level) and back again to South Tyrol. Then it goes downhill with a view of the spa town of Meran and on into the Etsch valley. At the end of the tour there are still 200 metres in altitude difference before the starting point is reached.
Do you still want to climb higher? You can reach the panoramic mountain of Penegal at 1,737m above sea level from the Mendel pass via a steep climb.
