1990 I World Cup in Italy I Training camp in Kaltern on the Wine RouteIn 1990, the DFB Team and coach Franz Beckenbauer were invited to South Tyrol by Luis Durnwalder, who was then minister-president of the province. The hotel in which the players resided was the renowned Hotel Seeleiten, located on the banks of Lake Kalterer and run by Franz Moser. His brother, Bruno Moser, later hosted the DFB team in his Hotel Weinegg in Girlan | Eppan in 2010, and is set to do so again in 2018. Besides the training sessions in the Kaltern sport zone – virtually all of which were open to the public – Lothar Matthäus’ and Rudi Völler’s team also completed numerous training sessions in the Rungg | Eppan sport zone. The result: World Champions!
2010 I World Cup in South Africa I Training camp in Eppan on the Wine RouteIn 2010, the team returned to the south of South Tyrol, this time to Eppan. The daily itinerary included intensive training sessions, long meetings to discuss tactics and sporting excursions in the nearby area – combined with strenuous exercises. For psychological coaching, the team enjoyed motivational sessions with South Tyrolean mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner and Formula 1 star Nico Rosberg. During their stay, coach Joachim Löw and his team resided in Hotel Weinegg in Girlan | Eppan, which is set to welcome the players once again in 2018. In 2010, Oliver Bierhoff, manager of the German national team, commented, “Nowhere else have we ever felt so at home!” The team was able to train extremely well in Eppan, as shown in the third place they achieved in the World Cup in South Africa.
2014 I World Cup in Brazil I Training camp in St. Leonhard in Passeier ValleyIn 2014, coach Jogi Löw and the DFB team chose the Burggrafenamt area, or to be more precise, Passeier Valley. For their domicile, they opted for the luxurious 5-star hotel Andreus run by the Fink family. Here, the team trained intensively for the World Cup in Brazil – where they claimed victory just weeks later.
In 2018, the Germans return to Eppan as reigning world championsIn 2018, the Germany national team will be completing its training camp in South Tyrol for the fourth time. Joachim Löw and his team look forward to a good time and ideal training conditions in Eppan.
