Position:
The Parish church of Girlan is located on the little village square in the middle of Girlan | Eppan. In honour of the holy Saint a little festival is organised every year.
History:
The Parish church is dedicated to Saint Marin of Tours. On 11 of November every year in Girlan the “Martinimarkt” takes place, a festival in honour of the Saint. The Parish church of Girlan was first mentioned in 1271 and has been rebuilt a couple of times in the course of the centuries. As it is today it has been since 1838.
Architectural style and characteristics:
The architectural is characterized from more époques due to the several rebuilding. The Gothic can be observed in the ground floor of the tower and the choir, whereas the Classic can be seen in the façade and on the inside. The baroque style is found in the ceiling fresco. The top of the church tower finished with an onion dome and marble was used in the 17th century for the altars.
Hiking:
Starting from the Parish church you can easily reach the „Gschleier Weinlehrpfad“, where you can find out how wine is made and where the grapes are grown.
