Mindful...
... about ticks
Whether hiking, cycling, or simply walking in nature – with just a few effective precautions, you can protect yourself from tick bites and fully enjoy your time outdoors.

Follow these simple tips to significantly reduce the risk:
- Ticks prefer tall grass, bushes, and shrubs. Stay on marked and paved paths to minimize exposure.
- Long sleeves, long trousers, and closed shoes provide protection from ticks. Light-colored clothing makes it easier to spot them.
- Insect repellents containing active ingredients like DEET or Icaridin offer protection for up to four hours. Always read the instructions carefully.
- If a tick does bite you, remove it as quickly as possible using tweezers, a tick removal tool, or your fingernails. Grasp the tick by the head close to the skin and pull it out slowly and straight. If it resists, gentle wiggling may help. Disinfect the area thoroughly afterwards.
- When to see a doctor? Tick bites usually heal without issues. However, if parts of the tick remain in the skin, you experience persistent fatigue, or notice a circular redness around the bite, please consult a doctor.
- Be aware of potential illnesses: Ticks can transmit serious diseases such as Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis (TBE).
