Climate Change & Climate Change Adaptation Plan
Climate Change on a Local Level – Identifying Challenges, Seizing Opportunities
Climate change is already a reality – also in Eppan. Its effects are increasingly noticeable and are gradually altering the framework conditions for tourism. Extreme weather events, rising temperatures, and changes in water availability pose new challenges to existing structures. At the same time, travel behavior and guest expectations are evolving.
As a low-altitude destination with a strong focus on summer tourism, Eppan is particularly affected.
Climate change not only impacts weather patterns but also influences the long-term orientation of tourism offerings, infrastructure, and mobility. Adapting to unavoidable climatic changes is therefore essential for a sustainable and resilient development of our region.
From Risk to Opportunity: The Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the Destination Eppan
To be prepared for these developments, the current situation was analyzed together with the Green Team – composed of representatives from tourism, the municipality, agriculture, commerce, environmental protection, youth, and the economy. On February 21, 2025, a workshop was held in cooperation with IDM South Tyrol to develop concrete strategies for climate change adaptation. Four key areas of action were identified, forming the core of the climate change adaptation plan for the destination Eppan – a practical catalogue of measures that will be continuously developed and adapted to new findings.
Municipality of Eppan: Embracing Local Responsibility
The municipality of Eppan is also taking responsibility. With concrete climate protection and action plans, it demonstrates the path toward more climate protection, energy efficiency, and climate-resilient spatial planning – from promoting renewable energy and reducing CO₂ emissions to the climate-conscious design of public spaces.
Transparency & Involvement
Climate protection concerns us all – which is why transparency is a key priority for us. The municipality’s climate protection plan and the destination Eppan’s climate change adaptation plan are publicly available. This allows everyone to follow which measures are planned, what goals are being pursued – and the progress we are making together along the way.
