Dream Village

St. Pauls | Eppan

The village with the cathedral

Traditional house facades, winding oriels, living hospitality, all this characterises St. Pauls | Eppan. Not only the parish church of St. Pauls, also called the "cathedral in the countryside" because of its majestic size, attracts visitors from near and far to the little village. The massive church tower of St. Pauls | Eppan with its characteristic onion dome can be seen from afar. After all, it towers a stately 86m into the sky and is one of the most important sacred buildings in South Tyrol. It houses the largest and probably most famous bell in South Tyrol, "Anna-Maria", with a diameter of over 1.8 metres and a weight of a good 3.5 tonnes. The cemetery with its round arch arcades with Tuscan columns is also a small highlight in St. Pauls | Eppan.

As the historical centre of the area that now bears the name Eppan, St. Pauls is rich in traditional house facades, winding bay windows and beautiful alleys. Even the Via Claudia Augusta is said to have passed through St. Pauls.

In spring 2005, the remains of a Roman villa were found not far above the village centre in the district of Aich in St. Pauls | Eppan, which will be opened to the public in the next few years. Among the many uncovered rooms, one in particular stands out with its almost completely preserved, colourful floor mosaic. Also in the district of Aich is a small chapel, the St. Justina church, with a beautiful carved altar, in the middle of the fertile vineyards above the hill of St. Pauls | Eppan.

St. Pauls | Eppan has always offered numerous cultural and social events throughout the year. Whether the biennial St. Pauls village festival, the WineCultureWeeks in summer or the Nativity Christmas in Advent.

Since 1998, the WineCultureWeeks have developed into a top-class event with tastings, a wine promenade or a sommelier taster course, to name but a few. The absolute highlight is the "Gastliche Tafel in the streets of St. Pauls". A more than 130-metre-long and beautifully decorated table stretches through the middle of the village and star chef Herbert Hintner serves up delicious dishes. Between the beautiful old houses and under the starry sky, these are enjoyed accompanied by exquisite wines.

At the KrippenWeihnacht, the alleys of St. Pauls | Eppan are transformed into a unique exhibition of nativity scenes. Around 100 nativity scenes of various shapes and styles can be discovered behind the windows and in the bay windows and niches of the historic houses in the village centre.
