Car-free Mendel Cycle Day

On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the historic Mendel Pass road will once again be dedicated to European Mobility Week. From 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the road from Oberplanitzing in Kaltern to the pass summit at 1,362 meters will be closed to all motorized traffic – a rare and impressive experience for anyone wishing to explore the Mendel Pass in complete tranquility.

On this day, the winding pass road belongs entirely to cyclists. The car-free route offers ideal conditions for enjoying the breathtaking scenery, the fresh mountain air, and the unique peace and quiet of the Mendel Pass. Many locals and visitors take advantage of this special occasion to experience the ascent in a relaxed and mindful way.
