Exhibition „INVENTUR“ – Eric Gallmetzer

On Friday, 18 September 2026, at 6 pm, the “INVENTUR” exhibition featuring works by South Tyrolean artist Eric Gallmetzer will open at the Lanserhaus in St. Michael | Eppan. Gallmetzer is one of those artists who do not accompany their works with lengthy explanations. His sculptures, paintings and drawings are intended to speak for themselves. They can be unsettling, raise questions, remain enigmatic and encourage critical reflection. Rather than being given a predetermined interpretation, viewers are invited to develop their own relationship with the work.

 

The title “INVENTUR” has been chosen deliberately. An inventory means taking stock – recording what is there, what has remained, what has changed and perhaps also what is missing. In the context of art, the term takes on an open and multifaceted meaning.

 

The exhibition invites visitors not only to look at the works on display, but also to take stock of their own perceptions and thoughts. “INVENTUR” does not seek to provide ready-made answers, but rather focuses on the encounter between the work and the viewer – on the moment of pausing, questioning and perhaps even not understanding. Eric Gallmetzer has presented his work in numerous exhibitions in South Tyrol and beyond. His works can also be found in various public spaces, where they become part of people’s everyday surroundings.

The artist

Eric Gallmetzer was born in Bolzano in 1967 and grew up in Eggen in the Val d’Ega, beneath the Latemar. He completed his artistic training at the St. Jakob School of Woodcarving in the Ahrntal Valley and at the Ortisei Art School in Santa Cristina, Val Gardena. After a stay abroad and several years working with an architecture studio, he increasingly devoted himself to art and design. From 2002 to 2015, Gallmetzer lived and worked in Cingoli in the Marche region, where he restored a former farmhouse and transformed it into an art house. Today, he works as a freelance artist and designer.
