Eppan: The Municipality Rich in Castles

Eppan is not just a municipality; it is the heart of South Tyrol’s castle-dotted landscape. With approximately 20 castles and some 40 manor houses, the town is considered the municipality with the highest concentration of castles in the region. The region’s history is reflected in the massive walls and stately towers that blend harmoniously into the landscape at elevations ranging from 300 to 680 meters above sea level.

Those looking to reach new heights will find impressive architecture in Eppan: The Kreidenturm, located below Hocheppan, soars a proud 34 meters into the sky, while the keep of Hocheppan Castle itself stands 23 meters tall.

A particular highlight for explorers is the so-called “Castle Triangle.” On a hike covering less than 5 km in total, you can explore the Boymont ruins, Korb Castle, and Hocheppan Castle all at once.
