Freedom

A vision made audible: World premiere of the Martin Luther King cantata

An extraordinary concert event is on the horizon: With "FREEDOM," the CoroPiccolo Karlsruhe chamber choir and the renowned Peter Lehel Quartet present a moving musical project blending jazz, choral sound, and a timeless message—an evening that will touch the soul.

At its heart is the highly anticipated world premiere of the new cantata "FREEDOM" by Peter Lehel. The internationally acclaimed saxophonist and composer impressively combines choir and jazz quartet in a sonic homage to the words and visions of Martin Luther King. Expressive, profound, and highly relevant, the work unfolds as a musical plea for freedom, humanity, and unity.

The performance is part of a concert tour through South Tyrol, during which CoroPiccolo Karlsruhe and the Peter Lehel Quartet will perform at several venues from August 2nd to 8th. The program is complemented by selected choral works based on texts by Rainer Maria Rilke, whose anniversary year lends additional artistic brilliance to the performance.

CoroPiccolo Karlsruhe, the chamber choir of the city's main church, is one of the most distinguished ensembles in southwestern Germany. Founded 30 years ago by Christian-Markus Raiser, the choir captivates audiences with its precise sound and expressive interpretations – far beyond the borders of the region.

The collaboration with the Peter Lehel Quartet builds on previous successes, including the acclaimed performance of "Song of Praise," which premiered in Strasbourg Cathedral and excerpts of which are also featured in the current program. In addition, the quartet will enthrall the audience with their own jazz compositions – virtuosic, vibrant, and full of energy. This concert tour promises a musical summer highlight that transcends genre boundaries and evokes powerful emotions.
